Calcium-Magnesium Citrate Veggie Tabs - Calcium is found in many places in nature; however, the catch is that it is never found by itself – it is always combined with another element. Therefore, anytime you eat a food or supplement which contains calcium, your body has to break apart the molecule it is contained within to extract that calcium. This process is not terribly efficient since calcium is hard to extract. So, it is vitally important to get calcium from a molecule that the body has the easiest time with. Enter Calcium Citrate: The citrate form of calcium is a salt-based molecule from which your body has been shown to glean calcium with the greatest ease – 2.5 times better than calcium carbonate. That is better than anything else out there – including some natural foods!
Like so many other nutrients, the human body usually combines more than one of them together to form its structures. In this case, magnesium is used in the crystalline structure of bone when it is available to do so. This results in a stronger structure than with calcium alone, resulting in fewer fractures and more resistance to breakage. As we age, you can certainly see the importance of this. So consider having magnesium included with calcium citrate as adding in extra support into your bones, and you will find exactly this in our Calcium-Magnesium Citrate supplement.
How much magnesium should you take with calcium? We have done the research on this and found that taking 2 times the amount of calcium over magnesium gives you the best ratio (2:1).
You will also see that it takes 3 capsules per day to get you this much calcium. Why so much? A couple of reasons:
1) Calcium combined with other elements forms a big molecule – it just takes up lots of space.
2) Remember that you have to break the calcium apart from its parent molecule; so to get at the elemental calcium, you need much more calcium citrate in order to get it.
