Some folk are taking a saw palmetto supplement to ward off hair loss. This is because it has been shown to block an enzyme (5-alpha-reductase) from allowing testosterone from being converted to another hormone dihydrotestosterone. Dihydrotestosterone is one of the substances that is known to cause hair loss. There have been some studies about this, but not many. So, the jury is still out on this one.
